The Polish language (or język polski, pronounced ['jezik 'polski] in Polish) belongs to the West Slavic group of languages and is the most widely spoken of this group. It has undergone major development and its modern form differs significantly from the Old Polish. Poland is linguistically homogeneous European country – nearly 97% of its citizens declare Polish as their mother tongue.
